La Sportiva®, the Italian Mountain Running® footwear brand, is pleased to congratulate the winners of the 2008 La Sportiva Mountain Cup. In the men's category, Shiloh Mielke took home $5,000 for winning the series while his sister Meadow Tarves took home the $5,000 women's grand prize. In the master's category, Simon Gutierrez and Lisa Goldsmith took top honors in the men's and women's divisions, respectively.

The La Sportiva Mountain Cup Grande Finale race was held in Vail, Colorado, one of the capitals of mountain running in North America. To honor the event, the Vail ski resort created a special course just for this event, which was greatly appreciated by the runners. Before this final race, there was considerable excitement among the fans and the runners alike because every single money-winning placement – 12 in all – could still change when the gun went off at 9:00 a.m. The result was an excellent race to end one of the biggest trail race series in the country.

“This was another great course - really fun, really beautiful, a good example of what the Cup has to offer everyone,” said Buzz Burrell, La Sportiva Mountain Running team captain. Also, the crowd was excited because each of the potential podium finishers was in this race. So it really was a grand finale,” he added.

The goal of the La Sportiva Mountain Cup every year is to improve and enhance the sport of Mountain Running, and La Sportiva feels that the best way to do this is by supporting the athletes. The La Sportiva Mountain Cup offers one of the biggest prize purses in the history of Mountain Running: $25,000. The series also brings attention to great trail races across the country. Promoting local races and attracting world-class athletes to a diverse list of venues exposes more people to the sport.
