Nuremberg, Germany -- In its first year dubbed PADDLEexpo, the 10th annual paddle and SUP event in Nuremberg, Germany, played host to the world with international exhibitor atttendance growing again, hitting a total of 86 percent with exhibitors coming from 26 countries.

Previously called “Kanumesse,“ this year's worldwide paddlesports marketplace welcomed 173 exhibitors in the 75,000-square-foot exhibition hall that showed the newest trends and products in everything from kayaks and canoes to stand-up paddle, clothing and gear transport solutions to 1,464 attendees, or 4 percent more than in 2011.

“The show is very international. I'd say at least 50 percent of visitors to our booth came from outside of Germany,“ said Lutz Fischer, of Sweden-based Thule, which was at the show for the third year. “Our concept of a special offer for paddle retailers was well-received,... and I believe we'll be even more pleased after the show.“

Show organizer Horst Fürsattel confirmed that the largest percentage of exhibitors came from the United States at 25 percent, with United Kingdom companies accounting for 15 percent and Germany's for 14 percent. Proving that the former Germany-centric Kanumesse show had truly spread its wings, attendees reflected a similar picture with more than 50 percent of the 1,464 coming from outside the host country and representing 47 nations.

Now firmly established as THE show to attend for doing global paddlesports business and networking with peers from around the world, PADDLEexpo – this year Sept. 18-20 -- has logged annual increases since its first year, underscoring continued and stable market growth. Many of the newer exhibitors come from the new but growing stand-up paddle area, which was represented for the 3rd year as a show-within-a-show called “SUP Expo.“ Experts say they are looking at another year of growth for SUP in 2012 and are expecting to double the number of boards sold to 6,000.

Also showing good growth, albeit still a niche market, particularly in Europe, is kayak fishing boats. And inflatables of all kinds also represent a growing segment, thanks in part to increased technology making for a higher quality paddling experience. That makes inflatables an on-target trend for countries with smaller homes, such as Europe or Asia.

PADDLEexpo will return to Nuremberg for its 11th edition Oct. 2-4, 2013.
