ICEBREAKER TO EXPAND PORTLAND OFFICES
- Company Now Employs 40 People in Oregon & Retail Store at NW 11th & Burnside -

Portland, Ore., July 21, 2008 – Sustainable outdoor apparel lives on in Portland, as Icebreaker, the edgy, environmentally-driven New Zealand-based leader in outdoor apparel made from pure merino wool, announced the location of its new United States headquarters at 1330 NW 14th Street in Portland, Oregon.

Icebreaker, whose global headquarters are in Wellington, New Zealand, has signed a lease for 16,500 square feet of rentable space from Overton Pearl #2 LLC. The company will renovate the space, which it aims to be LEED certified, where it will centralize its US sales and marketing operations and Global Design Studio starting in the spring of 2009. Currently Icebreaker has two office locations in Portland's Pearl District.

“Portland is legendary for its friendliness and has been most welcoming to our Kiwi company,” said Russ Hopcus, President of Icebreaker's fast-growing US company. “Icebreaker shares Oregon's values of innovation, sustainability and respect for the environment. This is a great new home for us.”

In spring, 2007 Icebreaker opened its Global Design Studio in Portland to capitalize on the pool of design talent in the area, which is the capital of the sports and fitness industry in the US. Later that year, the company announced it would move its U.S. headquarters from Ketchum, ID to Portland, a move that was completed in spring, 2008. Icebreaker then opened its first US retail Touch_Lab store on the corner of NW 11th and West Burnside, across from Powell's Books, in December 2007. The company now employs 40 people in Oregon and expects its headcount to expand to 70 in the next 24 months.

Niall Travers,
Senior Advisor with
CresaPartners, which advised the company in its search, added, "Icebreaker's choice of 14 Square as it's new USA Headquarters is an ideal choice. The re-development and goal of LEED Certification at 14 Square perfectly aligns with Icebreaker's corporate goal of sustainability and the utilization of existing resources."

About Icebreaker
Launched in 1994, Icebreaker was the first company in the world to develop a merino wool layering system for the outdoors. It was also the first outdoor apparel company in the world to source merino direct from growers, a system it began in 1997. There are now 10 distinct pure merino fabrics in the Icebreaker system, covering underwear, mid layer, and outerwear.

Icebreaker is sold in nearly 2000 stores in 24 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Australasia and North America. Based in Wellington, New Zealand, Icebreaker uses only pure merino hand-picked from 120 high country stations in the country's Southern Alps to create edgy outdoor clothing that combines nature's work with human technology and design. The company is committed to sustainability, ethical manufacturing, supply chain transparency, and animal welfare.
