GoPro will provide Digital HERO 3 wrist cameras and Helmet HERO wearable cameras for the 80-plus teams who will compete in a variety of non-motorized action sports during this summer's race.

Primal Quest is a North-America-based expedition adventure race involving extensive, multi-sport travel in challenging backcountry terrain while following strict, low-impact guidelines. Since its inception in 2002, the race has attracted world-class athletes and established itself as the premiere event of its kind in the U.S. Part of the event's success is due to high-profile television coverage for the race and substantial prize money for winning teams.

Primal Quest athletes will be able to capture hands-free video and still images during the race using GoPro's wearable Digital HERO 3 and Helmet HERO cameras. GoPro's camera designs allow for easy mounting on the athletes' wrists, helmets chest and head, as well as on their bikes, kayaks, and other gear. This wearable convenience, coupled with automatic photo and videos modes, will allow the athletes to document their race from exciting angles, all the while leaving them free to focus on their race…not using the camera.

”We're stoked that Primal Quest has chosen GoPro as their wearable camera partner for their punishing race,” says Nicholas Woodman, GoPro's founder. “Being able to quickly mount our cameras anywhere from the athletes' helmet to their kayak, bike or wrist, means we should see some exciting footage. It is fitting that one of the world's toughest races would be using one of the world's toughest and most convenient wearable cameras.”

“We are very excited to have each of our teams outfitted with GoPro's wearable digital video cameras for Primal Quest Montana,” said Primal Quest Director Don Mann. “Photos and video captured by these cameras will be collected on the course and posted to the Primal Quest website, giving the rest of the world a first hand look at why this is 'The World's Most Challenging Human Endurance Competition!'”

Primal Quest athletes will be using GoPro's Helmet HERO wearable camera system, which makes it easy to shoot digital video and photos from any helmet, vented or non-vented. The camera also quick-release mounts to bike frames, boards, skis, boots…and other outdoor gear making it a “mount anywhere” camera for creative video and photo capture.

Athletes also be using GoPro's Digital HERO 3 wrist camera, an all season/all sport wrist camera engineered to make it easy to shoot photos and video during your favorite activity, no matter how mild or extreme. The camera is there the moment you need it, but secure and out of the way like a watch when you don't.
