Gerber Supports American Hiking Society

Brand Signs on as a Sponsor of National Trails Day® American Hiking Society is proud to announce that Gerber has signed on as a sponsor of National Trails Day®, helping to promote the 20th anniversary celebration of NTD on June 2, 2012.

SILVER SPRING, MD – American Hiking Society (AHS) is proud to announce that Gerber has signed on as a sponsor of National Trails Day®(NTD) , helping to promote the 20th anniversary celebration of NTD on June 2, 2012. As a noted manufacturer of legendary blades for more than 70 years, Gerber supplies many of the knives and tools that hikers will be using on National Trails Day® and at other outdoor events.

“As National Trails Day® approaches, we are particularly pleased to join forces with a storied outdoor brand like Gerber in a celebration of recreation, exploration and America’s trails,” commented Gregory Miller, American Hiking Society’s President. “Gerber has a rich history of building products that enhance the outdoor experience, so the partnership is a natural fit for both of us.”

As part of the new sponsorship, Gerber will be sending a number of its new Steady Multi-Tool with built-in tripod to selected National Trails Day® events, and American Hiking Society is encouraging its event hosts from across the nation to gain some exposure for their own NTD celebrations by capturing images and sharing them with the brand. National Trails Day® events can involve a broad variety of adventures, including hiking, bike riding, trail maintenance, birding, wildlife photography, geocaching, paddle trips, trail running, trail dedications, health-focused programs, children’s activities, and more.

“As a brand whose products serve so many in the outdoors, we are very pleased to join American Hiking Society in promoting National Trails Day® and the important mission of American Hiking Society,” said Corey Maynard, Gerber’s Vice President of Marketing.

Gerber products contain implements that enhance a hiker’s preparedness for outdoor adventures, fitting in nicely with American Hiking Society’s expanded public awareness campaign regarding the 10 Essentials of Hiking. American Hiking Society encourages all hikers to be equipped with the following items, even on short hikes: 1) appropriate footwear; 2) map & compass/GPS; 3) extra water and a way to purify it; 4) extra food; 5) rain gear and extra clothing; 6) safety items: fire, light, and a whistle; 7) first aid kit; 8) knife or multi-purpose tool; 9) sunscreen and sunglasses; and 10) a daypack or backpack.

“We always emphasize safety during National Trails Day® events,” stated Miller,” because we want all of the participants to enjoy their experience and come out to hike again. Proper preparations with essential items like a multi-tool are an excellent educational message for us to deliver in conjunction with National Trails Day®.”
