Cloudveil, maker of inspired mountain apparel, received Outside magazine’s coveted Gear of the Year award in this month’s Winter Buyer’s Guide for the new FirsTurn soft shell jacket.
“We have a fantastic product development team that continues to create products that change and evolve the market,” Cloudveil Founder/President Stephen Sullivan stated. “We know the Outside testers put our jackets through the ringer, so positive reviews from their editorial crew are a huge compliment.”
The FirsTurn Jacket is a lightweight backcountry shell made from Cyclone™ Soft Shell, a polyester, spandex blend with 2-way stretch. The attached hood, hardwarmer pockets and laser-cut detailing make this jacket an all around 3-season, multi-sport piece for a great price point of $150.
Outside’s testers said the FirsTurn was “one of the most versatile soft shells we’ve seen. The FirsTurn beat back steady 20-mph winds and driving snow…yet also kept us comfortable on a sunny 40-degree day of backcountry laps. Ski, skate, run-the FirsTurn even held up on a cold and rainy bike commute.” One tester, who was reluctant to return the jacket even said it was “harder than giving up my woobie.”
The women’s Koven Plus Down jacket also made the cut for the Winter Buyer’s Guide, a new hybrid of hardshell technology and 700 down fill, the Koven Plus Down is, according to testers, “like snowboarding in a comforter.”
This is the second Gear of the Year award for the company, which garnered the 2007 award for the Koven Plus Jacket, an innovative soft shell using adaptive fabric technology that breathes when temperatures are hot and keeps heat in during cold days.
“Cloudveil truly started the soft shell revolution over twelve years ago,” explains Backbone Media partner Penn Newhard. “It is fantastic to see the company continuing to refine its product mix and push boundaries with the most innovative products in the category.”
