Black Diamond Equipment Ltd., a global leader in the climbing and freeride ski markets, announces the Fall 2010 launch of the new Efficient series of lightweight skis and boots for alpine touring.

Building upon the momentum of the Black Diamond Power Series Boot launch of 2008, the Efficient Series Alpine Touring Boots and Skis are a breakthrough in the quest to join exceptional performance, light weight and exceptional range of motion. At Black Diamond it's all about the down, and the new Efficient Alpine Touring Boots are an uncompromising blend of downhill control and lightweight efficiency for the modern AT skier.

“Black Diamond will continue to invest in exhaustive and innovative R&D for the core markets we serve,” comments Peter Metcalf, Black Diamond CEO. “This approach has consistently served consumers well as BD strives to debut benchmark products that allow users to further evolve the sports they are passionate about.”

Black Diamond's Fall 2010 line of four Efficient Boots are aimed at ambitious offpiste skiers who are unwilling to compromise. Models range from the flagship 3.5-buckle Prime ($599.99) and women-specific Swift ($599.00) to the classic minimalist's Slant ($529.99) to the 4-buckle freetouring Quadrant($649.99).

At the heart of the Efficient Series Alpine Touring Boot line is the revolutionary Triax Pivot Frame. This frame takes the platform of a freeride boot and enhances it with the features and minimal weight of a state-of-the-art alpine touring boot. The defining feature of the Triax Pivot Frame is its patent-pending Pivoting Cuff Technology: a unique resistance-free cuff design that allows for an unrivaled 40-degree range of motion. All this means modern skiers get unparalleled comfort, light weight, and efficiency in a boot that rips demanding descents.

The Black Diamond Efficient Ski line too, is all about the down, but in Fall 2010 BD Efficient skis have been completely re-engineered to deliver improved weight savings, specialized ski mountaineering features like flat tails and skin lock as well as torsionally stiff, scalpel like performance on the steep tight and down. BD debuts six new models including the fat, light and rockered Drift (136-100-122/$699.99) and Women's Starlet (134-100-121/$699.99), the Aspect(130-90-117/$669.99) for the modern ski mountaineer, and powerfully updated, more traditional backcountry and AT models such as the cult-favorite Stigma(124-80-108/$629.99), new Women's Syncra (122-80-107/$629.99) and guide's choice Guru (120-75-106/$599.99).
