(Salt Lake City, Utah) - Black Diamond Equipment Ltd., a global leader in the climbing and freeride ski markets, announces that Tatoo Adventure Gear will become the exclusive distributor for Black Diamond climbing and mountain equipment in Chile, effective August 1 2009.

“Black Diamond is one of the most valued brands in our portfolio,” says Tatoo Adventure Gear CEO and owner, Mauricio Carreño. “Tatoo Adventure Gear has been a proud distributor of Black Diamond for more than five years in other South American countries and this new opportunity represents an enormous responsibility for us, but also a further step to consolidate our business as the leader in the Chilean and South American markets.”

Tatoo Adventure Gear is one of the largest outdoor gear store chains in South America, with presence in five countries in the Andean region: Chile, Bolivia, Perú, Ecuador and Colombia. Founded in Chile, its headquarters are located in Quito, Ecuador, and each country has its own in-country office and warehouse to handle both the wholesale and retail local businesses.

“Our five-year relationship with Tatoo is growing strong and we are pleased to build on the successes of other countries and extend that to Chile - a market where we have been developing business slowly but surely over the pass several years,” says Peter Metcalf, President and CEO of Black Diamond Equipment. “We are excited to take it to the next level with Tatoo.”

On the retail side of its operation, Tatoo Adventure Gear manages 15 stores located in the most relevant cities in those five countries, including top tourist/adventure spots like Cusco and the Galápagos Islands, in addition to online stores in Chile and Ecuador.
