Big City Mountaineers (BCM) announced today that registration for the fourth annual Backpacker Magazine's Summit for Someone Benefit Climb series for 2007 will officially open on Wednesday, October 11, 2006.

Thanks once again to strong sponsor support, Backpacker Magazine's Summit for Someone program will, for the second straight year, triple in size; the 2007 climb series is designed to support 400 participants, establishing it as the largest benefit climb program in the country.

“Big City Mountaineers continues to be fortunate to have unbelievable support from our outdoor industry partners that has allowed us to create voraciously sought after events,” comments Mark Godley, Big City Mountaineers' Executive Director. “The promotional exposure offered by Backpacker, JanSport, and Keen has allowed us to surpass in size and scope benefit climb programs that have been in existence for over 20 years.”

“Backpacker and our sibling publications at Rodale firmly believe that we can do well while doing good,” adds Charina Regino, Marketing Director at Backpacker Magazine. “The Summit for Someone program is the quintessential example of how we can use our credibility with subscribers to help drive the growth of an organization like BCM, whose mission we strongly support.”

Participants in Backpacker Magazine's 2007 Summit for Someone benefit climb program each will raise $3,500 in donations and choose between 13 of the most sought after alpine climbs in North America. Each participant receives over $3,000 of gear for his/her climb, generously provided by leading outdoor industry manufacturers, including JanSport, Keen, Highgear USA, Leki, Jetboil, Petzl, Princeton Tec, Optic Nerve, Ibex, Honey Stinger, Outdoor Research, Mammut, Thorlos, Camelbak, Big Agnes, Protech Skin Care, The North Face, Black Diamond Equipment, and LaSportiva.
