Fox River, a leading maker of high-performance, sport-specific socks is underwriting what promises to be the most talked about event at the upcoming OR Summer Market Show this August in Salt Lake City: the Outdoor Women's Industries Coalition's (OIWC) “Ramp It Up” (drag) fashion show on Friday, August 11th starting at 6:30 pm at Port O' Call. Fox River will also give away pairs of its new Good Earth Collection socks which the company is launching at OR.

For years, women were forced to wear men's outdoor performance clothing for various activities. In recent years, that has all changed. And now thanks to the OIWC, women are turning the tables at “Ramp It Up.” 60 well-known men in the industry will dress up in feminine, yet technical, women's outdoor clothing strutting their stuff on the runway.

As the first sock maker to design and produce socks made specifically to fit a woman's foot, Fox River enjoys the irony of this event especially when early on, naysayers said women didn't need a specific fit in socks or in other outdoor gear.

“This will be a very fun event bringing together a who's who in the outdoor industry while celebrating OIWC's 10th anniversary,” says Joel Anderson, Fox River branded division president. “We're glad to be part of it.”

According to Kathy Murphy, president of OIWC, “Not only is this event an opportunity to highlight the important work of OIWC and to thank many of the male mentors in the industry, it is also a fundraiser for OIWC.”

The apparel worn by the men will be donated to OIWC and ‘sold' in an online auction prior the show. Attendees will pay an entry fee of $10, 10% of which will go to a nonprofit organization focused on getting girls into the outdoors. And each attendee will be automatically entered in a raffle to win one of three trips valued at up to $5,000. OIWC will provide food at the show, along with a cash bar. Timmy O'Neil, a famous speed climber well known for his hilariously entertaining antics, will emcee the night's event.

More than 500 outdoor industry representatives are expected to attend. In addition, OIWC will present its First Ascent Award at the conclusion of the show. The First Ascent Award recognizes a young woman who is new to the industry and demonstrates significant potential for leadership.
