SNEWS® Live: Turns out oil and water do mix

The Oil and Water National Awareness Tour adventure is a unique combination of adventure, education, and alternative energy advocacy, but what kind of an impact are kayakers Seth Warren and tyler Bradt making? How does this expedition resonate and connect with the outdoor industry as a whole? What can you do to get involved? Our reporter, James Mills, spoke with Seth via satellite phone from the truck as the two made a stop in Anchorage, Alaska.

SNEWS® Live  -- On the heels of a successful Oil And Water National Awareness Tour visiting schools across the country, kayakers Tyler Bradt and Seth Warren set on on July 1 on round two of the America’s Tour in their custom, biodiesel-powered firetruck -- traveling from Alaska to Chili all in the name of promoting sustainable lifestyle choices through alternative energy. The adventure is a unique combination of adventure, education, and advocacy, but what kind of an impact are the duo making? How does this expedition resonate and connect with the outdoor industry as a whole? What can you do to get involved? Our reporter, James Mills, spoke with Seth via satellite phone from the truck as the two made a stop in Anchorage, Alaska.

About the Oil + Water Project
The Biofuels Education Coalition (BEC) is an umbrella organization, created as a voice to promote the use of alternative energy. Under BEC is a world wide tour called the Oil + Water Project, featuring a demonstration vehicle fueled by vegetables that will travel to communities for youth-oriented presentations. Leg one of the six leg world journey will cover 16,00 miles over 2 continents, visiting locals in over 16 countries along the way.

Seth Warren
For the past 10 years, Seth has had his hands in all kinds of stuff: Student, Professional Athlete, Expedition Leader, Marketing Director, Event Organizer and Productions Coordinator. In the fall of 2001, Seth received his degree in Resource Conservation. Since then he has established himself among the top 20 action sports athletes in the world according to Spike TV in 2005. Combining his experience under one massive project (BEC/O+WP), Seth will use his action sports podium to positively influence and educate youth about alternative energy.

Tyler Bradt
Tyler Bradt was born and raised in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley. Ranch life and barrel racing slowly changed hands with kayaking and at age 14 he took his first international kayaking trip to Norway with the NRPW (New Riders of the Perfect Wave) posse. The trip sparked a passion for international traveling and kayaking so he enrolled and spent two years with the World Class Kayak Academy. His time with the Academy was spent focusing on lifestyle choices, athletics, academics and character. Tyler finished the two year program in Uganda, Africa, the inspiration for a kayaking expedition from Alaska to Chile. Since the original plan was conceived, one year ago, it has undergone substantial renovations, and today it is the source of Tyler’s passion, motivation and lifestyle.

Phase II: Alaska to Chile

The pace of the Alaska to Chile section of the Americas Tour will have a more casual and spontaneous approach, as the team will stay up to two weeks in a community versus one to two days. The vehicle is equipped to show a promotional video, in English and Spanish, describing the BEC and the use of biofuels. Both Seth and Tyler possess conversational Spanish skills. BEC is currently seeking organizations located in or near each location along the coastal tour to get involved in the project: NGOs, school groups, and grassroots initiatives. With the on-board vegetable press, the team will pull into a local community and demonstrate how locally grown crops can be used for fuel.
