SNEWS® Live:  One of the leading brands in outdoor footwear didn’t even exist five years ago. Today, Keen, a maker of athletic sandals, rugged hikers and casual shoes, is enjoying unprecedented popularity among retailers and consumers. Keen was REI's supplier of the year in 2005, and it boasted gross sales that doubled in 2006. Few companies have risen to prominence in such a short time.

At the 2007 Outdoor Industry Association breakfast, which kicked off the start of Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah, Keen President Kirk Richardson accepted the association's Innovation Award for his company. The industry recognized Keen for its leadership in not only making and marketing great products, but in demonstrating business practices that are both socially and environmentally conscious. SNEWS® Live spoke with Richardson at the Keen booth during Winter Market to bring you this report.
