The lawsuits Primedia (Climbing magazine) vs. Big Stone (Rock and Ice, and Trail Runner) and the counterclaim Big Stone vs. Primedia were dismissed in federal court on Nov. 22, as agreed upon by both parties. In other words, the issue is settled and over. The court documents stated that the dismissal was "with prejudice" meaning each party has to pay its own costs and neither party collects any money or damages from the other.
SNEWS View: As is always the case in settlements such as this, neither Primedia nor Big Stone can say anything more. However, we can and we will. These are lawsuits that should never have happened. Certainly, the legal profession made money and we're sure they are grateful to Primedia and Big Stone. The end result is that the action affected morale at both camps, wasted time that could have been far better spent focusing on the respective businesses, and undoubtedly siphoned financial resources from both party's coffers that might have been used far more productively. We're glad to see that the gloves have been dropped and each is now free to focus on simply publishing quality magazines the industry enjoys reading.
