Registration is open and events are taking shape for the 2007 Health & Fitness Business Show, Aug. 2-4, in Denver.
SNEWS® Fitness Forum, Aug. 2, 10:30 a.m. to noon
SNEWS®, as the show's official and exclusive media sponsor, has lined up a timely topic for the 3rd Annual Fitness Forum -- one that should be thought-provoking, challenging and educational. Would SNEW® do anything other than that?
Titled, "Scoring With The Women: How to satisfy a woman and make her a customer for life," the forum will take up the debate about whether the fitness industry is doing a good enough job selling and marketing to, promoting to and designing for women, who influence or purchase at least three of four purchases (or so they say -- we promise to track down where this number came from, as well as other statistics about women and fitness).
Whether you are a supplier, retailer or consultant, satisfying what women want should be front of mind because of their influence. As in past SNEWS® Forums, this one too will allow, encourage and in fact incite an open and honest discussion with panelists and among attendees about the challenges and opportunities for the industry in dealing with the women's market. We have assembled a highly respected group of manufacturer and retailer panelists from inside and outside the industry who have experiences and commentary to share. Per the normal format -- again "refereed" by SNEWS® editor-in-chief Therese Iknoian -- our panelists will discuss and debate aspects of the topic, then open the floor to attendees who will of course be expected to ask hard questions and prompt group discussion.
Our panelists from inside the fitness industry:
>> Kim* Moore, Exercise Equipment Northwest (retailer), sales manager and general sales guru for 18 years, Portland, Ore.
>> Dale Hansen, Hansen Fitness (retailer), owner and concept developer, has taken huge steps in creating stores that appeal to women, Fort Wayne, Ind.
>> Jeff Laborde, Inspire Fitness (home gym supplier), sales/marketing manager, has found success emphasizing what women want in home gyms in color choices and size, Fullerton, Calif.
For additional perspective from outside the fitness industry:
>> Kim* Walker, Outdoor Divas (retailer), founder of a women's-focused outdoor specialty gear and apparel store that has been an industry model, Boulder, Colo. (www.outdoordivas.com)
>> Kim* Coupounas, GoLite (manufacturer), co-founder/CEO of an outdoor equipment/apparel company emphasizing lightweight and durable, also a highly visible and articulate leader among women in the outdoor industry, Boulder, Colo. (www.golite.com)
We truly hope that everyone will walk away with insights and perhaps a few key action items, as well as provocation for additional discussions during the show.
*We didn't really try to choose three of three women named "Kim!"
Registration, sponsors and exhibitors
So far the exhibitor list is shaping up with all the normal companies. Two changes of note: A month ago we announced that True Fitness was returning; we have since heard that it has cancelled its booth. However, FreeMotion Fitness will be making its first appearance with a good-sized booth to show its new range of retail products.
Sponsors so far include Diamondback, Keys, Lamar and SportsArt. SNEWS® is again the exclusive media sponsor and will hold court in the new Community Hub and Media Center of the show where all attendees and exhibitors will be able to kick back and rest their feet, swap news and stories, take part in podcasts for SNEWS® Live programming, and grab a cuppa joe … or just get found if they are lost.

2nd Annual SNEWS® Golf Scramble at Health & Fitness Business
After an intimate pre-show first-time golf event in 2006, the 2007 scramble is building nicely. Click here to see our complete story from May 4, 2007, "Golf scramble takes amazing shape, adds former NFL pro Steve Beuerlein as guest player!" As a benefit for Augie's Quest, searching to find a cure for ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease, the scramble is attracting sponsors, players and promises lots of games, prizes and goodies -- all in the name of raising money for a great cause.
Big news is that Steve Beuerlein, retired 17-year NFL quarterback and now a CBS NFL game analyst and North Carolina-based businessman, will be a special guest player.
Sponsors so far, helping with donations to make the event more fun, as well as enable it to donate more to the cause, include the Health & Fitness Business Show, AccuFitness, Diamondback, FreeMotion Fitness, Octane Fitness and Spri Products.
SNEWS® will update show events each month so keep reading to hear more about what you don't want to miss at the 2007 event. Although not organizers, we'd be happy to answer questions if we can, or we'll forward them to those in-the-know at show headquarters. Just drop us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
