Health & Fitness Business ’11: Sponsors, exhibitors coming aboard; SNEWS back as media sponsor

Never too early to start planning: The 2011 Health & Fitness Business Show will return to Las Vegas in its co-location with Interbike Sept. 14-16. SNEWS has the early report on exhibitors, sponsors and other news.

The second year in its co-location with the Interbike show in Las Vegas, the Health & Fitness Business Expo is expected to grow, plus it’s moving to a prime spot next to registration.

With preparation for the Sept. 14-16 show by Nielsen Expositions in full swing, both exhibitors and sponsors are already taking their places too, just as SNEWS is back as the exclusive media sponsor to help keep both attendees and exhibitors informed.

“The response to the integration of Health & Fitness Business and Interbike shows has been extremely positive,” said show director Andy Tompkins. “We already have a strong line-up of fitness exhibitors committed since brands found the new format with Interbike helped them to engage both retail fitness and cycling buyers from around the world.”

Dates and location

Health & Fitness Business is being expanded back to a three-day show to coincide with Interbike’s three-day run at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. The fitness show was cut to two days from three in 2008, for its last two years in Denver as attendee and exhibitor numbers dwindled considerably. That’s where it stayed last year in Las Vegas, despite a lively pro-and-con discussion.

This year, with the venue in place for all three days due to Interbike, it made sense, Tompkins said, to go back to three. Still to be determined are the exact hours of the last day, but he has told SNEWS he expected it will be a shorter day, as was typical earlier.

The show’s on-site location is another change: In 2010, its room was down the hall from Interbike, but in a separate, rather isolated ballroom. Many clamored for the fitness segment of HFB (www.healthandfitnessbiz.com) to be on the same floor as Interbike but in its own area. Battling differing cultures, as well as the simple lack of space at the massive bike show, show management instead moved the HFB floor to a larger area immediately adjacent to registration and next to both the SNEWS/HFB Community Hub, where happy hours and meetings will take place. It’s also by the main entrance, seminar and meeting rooms, a new product showcase, additional Interbike show space, as well as a show-wide community lounge and café. “We hope what it will do is make sure that attendees, all of whom have to check-in at registration, will see Health & Fitness Business,” Tompkins said, “and we’ll be able to drive even more traffic.”

Not as if traffic was in the end a problem. Final numbers after re-checking and ridding duplicates, were to say the least huge: Nearly six times the stores (1,194 in 2010 compared to 200 in 2009) and about the same increase in buyers (2,135 compared to 380 year earlier). Click here to see the Jan. 17, 2011, full story on SNEWS. But the HFB show doesn’t know what happened once these attendees walked past the badge scanners at the door. So the goal is to get even more in for a look-see.

“The biggest difference to me is that if an attendee wasn’t looking for it last year, they probably wouldn’t have found it,” Tompkins explained, “but now it’ll be presented right there.”

One trade-off with the new upfront placement in Hall G is, show management admitted, a low ceiling of 13 feet with a lot of support columns to work around – something all exhibitor have been informed about, Tompkins said.

Exhibitors and sponsors

Of course, SNEWS as the exclusive media sponsor will be on hand to cover everything from top to bottom, as well as keep the SNEWS TV cameras rolling and help organize some energy in the Community Hub and during happy hours.

“As always, we are particularly excited about working with SNEWS,” Tompkins said. “As the definitive source of retail fitness business information, SNEWS will help update the fitness community on HFB developments and, while on-site, be instrumental in facilitating networking in the SNEWS Community Zone, along with promoting product and brands stories via the return of SNEWS TV.”

In addition, other sponsors to date, as reported to us by the show, are: Ball Dynamics, BH North America, Diamondback, Power Plate, Scosche Industries, SportsArt, and Stick-e Products. Diamondback will make sure one show day ends on a happy note by hosting a cooling beverage hour (or two) in the Community Hub.

The exhibitor list is growing with many of the known entities already on the list along with dozens of others. Already signed on are, for example: BH North America, Body-Solid, Bodyguard, Diamondback Fitness Master, GoFit, Johnson Health Tech companies, LeMond, Octane, PaceMaster, Power Plate, SPRI, Spirit, SportsArt, StairMaster, True, Vectra and Water Rower.
