Did you hear?... SIA moves 2003 show to Mandalay Bay Convention Center and Resort

SIA today announced to its members that it was moving its 2003 show to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and Resort.

SIA today announced to its members that it was moving its 2003 show to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and Resort. According to David Ingemie in a conversation with SNEWS® earlier this month, SIA recently learned of the availability of Mandalay Bay while exploring options for holding concurrent shows with Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. The SIA trade show is still scheduled to take place January 24 to 27, 2003.
® View: Why the switch? While SIA has had a long-standing relationship with the Las Vegas Convention Center, Mandalay Bay offers more modern facilities with advanced technological enhancements in the center of Las Vegas' famed strip meaning closer proximity to hotel rooms and restaurants. Apparently the new facility also offers many more meeting room options so attendees don't feel as if they are walking across the country to find a room as they do currently with the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). Perhaps the biggest reason of all, for now, is that Mandalay offers far more scheduling flexibility to a show of SIA's size, chiefly because they are newer and have more open dates than the LVCC. The LVCC books dates out 18 years in advance, which put SIA into a bind when it moved its dates as that meant the organization was now shoehorned in between long-established dates of other shows. Ingemie has told SNEWS® that SIA will be at Mandalay Bay for the foreseeable future. One thing that does not change, unfortunately, is the near overlap of SIA and OR Winter Market. Ingemie also told us that exhibitor pricing does not change either up or down.
