Not only are Outdoor Retailer editors jumping ship to other jobs, the few remaining staff are now resorting to jumping out of airplanes -- together. Managing editor Wendy Geister and news editor Erlina Tulabut were seen voluntarily leaping from a perfectly good aircraft flying over Paris Valley near Chino, Calif., recently -- click here for photo of Geister. On the way up at only 1,000 feet, the jumpmaster opened the airplane door next to Tulabut to cool things down. Apparently, Tulabut's jumping partner clipped in and screamed, "Don't worry, if we get sucked out we can open the chute and still survive." Comforting! Geister told SNEWS® that when she leapt out of the plane at 13,000 feet attached to her tandem partner, they did a somersault and free-fell for 50 seconds. The guide then stuck an altimeter in Geister's face and screamed, "Wendy, either you pull the rip-cord now or we both die!" SNEWS® View: It appears as if being the only two full-time editors left at a magazine that used to have at least six full-time editors on the masthead has left Geister and Tulabut brave enough to face even the most daunting adventure.
