Eight products SNEWS featured for the Retailer Review column.

Earlier this year, SNEWS launched a new series of gear reviews written by retailers, for retailers. Our team covered almost every category, from Nite Ize's new dry bags to United By Blue's multi-sport shorts.

Now we're taking Retailer Reviews to the next level. Along with our core testing team of Betsy Bertram from Townsend Bertram & Company, Joe Miller from Great Outdoor Provision Company, and Bill Bernhard from Roam'n Around, we're opening up the floor to specialty outdoor retailers across the country to submit reviews of popular products.

Products SNEWS reviewed:

Cotopaxi Palmas Jacket

United By Blue Anywhere Shorts

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite

Nite Ize RunOff Waterproof Bags

Danner Trail 2650s

Grayl Geopress

MSR Paragon Snowshoe Bindings

adidas Polartec PowerAir Fleece Jacket

Our goal with this column is to collect product feedback from a diverse set of experts who are on the front lines of retail every day and who are also avid users of the gear they sell. In addition to highlighting a product's feature, we're also diving into how gear sells in stores. What about the price point makes it an easy sell? Is there something about the display that draws customers in? Does it feature something customers have been asking for? How can other retailers be just as successful selling it?

To be a gear tester, we only require a few things:

1. You must be an employee at a specialty outdoor retail shop.

2. The product you pitch must be sold in your store. New this season and perennial best sellers alike are welcome.

3. You will be asked to test the product for a few weeks in various conditions. You will then be asked to write a 300- to 500-word review with photos. Part of the review should focus on the gear's features; the other part should focus on how the product is selling in the store and why.

4. Once we edit and post the review, share it on your personal and store social media accounts.

Gear reviews for retailers by retailers. Sound interesting? Starting next year, we're launching a completely new way of reviewing gear. While there are plenty of consumer-facing publications writing about the latest and greatest tools to elevate the outdoor experience, there more

Grayl Geopress filling up

Retailer Review: Grayl Geopress Purifier

Let's face it. First impressions are hard to counter. As a backpacker, my first impression of the Grayl Geopress ($90) was, “Wow. It’s big. And heavy.” This filter is nearly equivalent to the size of a 32-ounce Nalgene, weighing about a pound. So next to my Sawyer— measuring the more

Joe Miller pouring boiling water from Soto WindMaster stove

Retailer Review: Soto WindMaster Stove

“Sorry.” This apology used to be part of my food prep ritual, offered up every time I fired up my stove and had to stop all conversation for the next three minutes or so. My old stove sounds like it's taxiing for takeoff, rather than bringing water to a boil.  Then I switched more

Product shot of On Cloudventures, in rust red

Retailer Review: On Cloudventure

“My feet!” one of my hiking buddies complained. Several others in our group groaned in agreement. We had just completed 10 hours on North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail—a 21-mile stretch on the rugged Blue Ridge Escarpment, including a nearly 7-mile run on sole-pounding, more
