Adventure 16 began in the '60s when some Explorer Scouts and leaders set out to make 16mm adventure films, and turned their passion to making packs. In a garage in La Mesa, California, the team developed a pack that shifted the weight comfortably to the hips. The pack was just the start and A16 began inventing other outdoor products. In 1970, Mic Mead, an avid customer, incorporated the company. He went on to design the first baffled down parka, invent the use of aluminum alloy tent poles for an optimal strength-to-weight combination, and open retail outlets. A16 now has two locations and an online store, all specializing in backpacking, hiking, camping, climbing, mountaineering, and adventure travel.
