LEXINGTON, MA (January 29, 2009) – Saucony, Inc., a leading global supplier of performance athletic footwear and apparel, today announced that the Saucony ProGrid™ Stabil CS and the ProGrid™ Echelon were awarded “Best Update” and “Best Debut,” respectively, by Runner's World, the world's leading running magazine, in the publication's annual “Spring Shoe Guide Special.” Of the 30 shoes showcased in the review, six were cited as best in class in the categories of Editor's Choice, Best Update, Best Buy, and Best Debut, with Saucony receiving highest marks in two out of the four categories.

“The ‘Best Update' winner represents a significant improvement made to an existing model,” said Runner's World. The ProGrid Stabil CS was noted for “its roomier toebox, above average flexibility and support for maximum pronation control.” The editors called the shoe a “must have” for big runners who need plenty of motion control.” One wear-tester declared, “It was supportive and I didn't need a break-in period.”

The “Best Debut” winner points to a new release that received high marks from the Runner's World Shoe Lab, from wear-testers and from Runner's World editors. The editors remarked that the Echelon “is built to cushion the heavy footfalls of larger runners, and RW Shoe Lab tests show that it does a bang-up job.” Additionally, the editors recommended the Echelon “for runners with high arches or those who wear orthotics and need a durable everyday trainer.”

“The whole Saucony team is extremely proud that Runner's World has recognized two of our shoes as ‘best in class',” said Patrick O'Malley, vice president of global product for Saucony. “Innovation continues to be the driving force for our product team. The Stabil update, with heel-to-forefoot posting, will make a lot of pronators very happy. Neutral runners who wear orthotics will appreciate the Echelon's capacity for insoles as well as the shoe's wide base of support. At the end of the day, it's important for us to know that we're doing everything to make runners' lives just a little bit better,” added O'Malley.

The ProGridâ„¢ Stabil CS introduces an entirely new way of posting for the severe over- pronator. Saucony's CS Zone (Control and Stability Zone) utilizes Dual Density SSL EVA on the medial side of the shoe, extending into the forefoot, to offer control and stability throughout the entire transition from heel strike to toe-off while still maintaining optimal flexibility. Saucony's exclusive Comfortrideâ„¢ sockliner is combined with a continuous foot bed for additional stability and support. The ProGrid Stabil CS accommodates most orthotics. (Sizes: men's 7-13, 14, 15, and women's 5-12; MSRP: $115.00)

The ProGrid™ Echelon is all about cushion and ride. Built around a new straight last with a wider base, the ProGrid Echelon provides neutral runners with superior cushioning and support without posting. The lightweight, breathable mesh upper incorporates Saucony's Arch-Lock® for a snug mid-foot fit. A lateral crash pad and filled-in medial arch coupled with Saucony's exclusive Comfortride sockliner offer a smooth transition and plush ride, while also accommodating most orthotics. (Sizes: men's 7-13, 14 and 15, and women's 5-12; MSRP: $110.00; At retail: February 1, 2009)

The ProGrid Stabil CS and the ProGrid Echelon are two out of 30 shoes featured in the review, all of which were put through rigorous testing by Runner's World editors, 350 wear-testers, and the one-of-a-kind Runner's World Shoe Lab. Runner's World is the only magazine in the world to independently test running shoes in this way, in order to give its editors the most objective means necessary to determine which shoes are most deserving of award status. Because Runner's World only tests and reviews the best products available, shoes that have been tested may use the “Tested by the Runner's World Shoe Lab” label.

The entire “Spring Shoe Guide Special” will be available in the March issue of Runner's World, the worldwide authority on running information, arriving on newsstands February 3rd or by visiting www.runnersworld.com.
