OGDEN, UT – June 21, 2010 – Twelve members of Salomon's Trail Running team will descend on Squaw Valley, CA next week for the Western States 100 endurance race. Using the 100-mile race as a team-building kick-off to the competitive trail race season, team members will support three of Salomon's top racers as they compete for podium placement. Salomon's Glen Redpath, Devon Crosby-Helms and Killian Jornet will contend for top honors at one of the nation's most extreme trail running competitions.

Western States 100 is one of the oldest trail events in the world, following the original trails used by miners in the 1850's, from Squaw Valley to Auburn through remote and rugged territory.

Glen Redpath, the reigning Canadian Ultrarunner of the Year, and Devon Crosby-Helms, winner of the 2009 TransRockies, are both favored be near the front of the pack at next week's race. At this year's Western States 100, Spanish trail running champ Kilian Jornet will compete for the first time. In training for the race, Jornet set a world record for completing a 435-mile mountain running trek over the Pyrenees Mountains on in just eight days.

Acting as a support team for Redpath, Crosby and Jornet, the other members of the Salomon Trail Running team will provide unique encouragement and motivation at water stops and aid stations along the trail. In the week prior to the race, the entire team will lodge together, train as a group and shoot promotional footage. Media interested in taking a training run with the team, or interviewing any team members are invited to make an appointment with Hilary Hutcheson at Hilary@outsidemedia.com.

Salomon athlete and the 2009 Western States 100 Women's Champ Anita Ortiz pulled out of the competition last week after injuring her meniscus and LCL. Ortiz is undergoing surgery this week and hopes to be race-ready within six weeks.
