Roster Set for Merrell OR Beach Volleyball in Honor of National Parks

Nine bold teams, consisting of volleyball all-stars and newbies, will hit the beach to play in the inaugural Merrell Outdoor Retailer beach volleyball tournament on Pierpont Street during the Industry Party on August 3, 2010.

Nine bold teams, consisting of volleyball all-stars and newbies, will hit the beach to play in the inaugural Merrell Outdoor Retailer beach volleyball tournament on Pierpont Street during the Industry Party. Briggs & Riley Travelware, Brooks Range, CamelBak, Green Guru Gear, Hi-Tec, ITW Nexus Global, Merrell, Outside Magazine and Patagonia will hit sand at the Pierpont Street beach at 6:00 p.m. to kick of the tournament and compete for the inaugural trophy. All proceeds from the competition will go to the National Park Foundation.

The tournament will consist of eight games (nine teams) each lasting a maximum of fifteen minutes. Each game will be rally scoring, first to fifteen points or the most points after fifteen minutes moves on to compete again. To rally the competition, each game will begin with the starting six members from each team playing a round of flip cup at center court. Whoever wins the round, wins the first serve.

“The volleyball games will add a fun and competitive element for a good cause to the industry party,” said Amy Roder, marketing specialist at Merrell. “We challenge those in the crowd to bone up on their National Park trivia. In honor of our long term partner and outdoor industry esteemed National Park Foundation, we'll be calling out National Park trivia questions to win fun prizes. For our fans that are not able to make it out to the show, we will also tweet out questions with the OR show hashtag (#ORShow) and will have winners from our Twitter audience (@merrelloutside) so everyone can play. We hope the industry comes to support the games to get outside on the Pierpont Street beach.”
