Publish date:

San Francisco, CA (July 17, 2019) – On Saturday September 7 San Francisco’s iconic Potrero Hill will play host to the 3 annual Red Bull Bay Climb, tasking cyclists with a literal breathtaking sprint of just 0.32 miles, at an average grade of 12.67%. In true Red Bull style, the course is designed to take it to the next level in intensity, the steepest grade topping out at 20.62% and with three uphill and three “flat” sections to battle.

Red Bull Bay Climb distinguishes itself from a typical uphill bike race with its iconic locale, and unique course and competition construction, identifiers of Red Bull as a leader in progressive sports and events.

September 7 will see 250+ riders descend on, to ascend up, one of the Bay Area’s steepest streets, competing in either the Fixed (single gear) or Open (any two wheel bike) categories. Male and female divisions in both categories are open for entry, with the biggest stipulation for bike entry is that it must be human powered, no electric-bikes allowed, pure grit recommended.

Notable athletes and participants expected for Red Bull Bay Climb 2019 include 2018’s Open Men’s winner and MTB athlete Payson McElveen, self-proclaimed “bike enthusiast” Colin Strickland, and Fixed Gear cyclist Nico Deportago-Cabrera, with many more to be announced.

Red Bull Bay Climb is produced in partnership with San Francisco-based Mission Crit, an unsanctioned bicycle criterium held on a short, technical circuit in the Mission District of San Francisco, and Red Kite Racing, promoter and event partner for USA Cycling bicycle races and other inspired athletic events. Red Bull Bay Climb is free and open to spectators along the course.

Participants can get more information and Register here. Registration opens July 18 at 10am PST.

Through the Red Bull network, hi-res video and still images are captured and made immediately available for editorial use for all media channels including television, film, print, mobile and digital. The content is centrally located in the Red Bull Content Pool for media partners.
