Are you ready to get out and use some outdoor gear instead of just selling it all day? Has a NOLS course been on your radar but beyond your wallet's reach? Well, have we got a deal for you.

The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) is offering a 40 percent discount on the tuition of a NOLS course for retail employees of our Preferred Retailer shops. The course can be no longer than 30 days in length and must start before August 15, 2007. We are offering this opportunity to the first 100 applicants. For more details, please visit:

John Holden of Blue Ridge Mountain Sports says:

I realized the other day I had been managing outdoor stores for almost 40 years. During that time, I have hired about 250 employees. I can say without exception that the 15 or so NOLS graduates I have hired have been my most trusted and hardest working employees overall. NOLS grads come to work pre-loaded with a deep appreciation of wilderness ethics and values, can deal with challenging situations, and understand the relationship between gear, outdoor skills and life-enhancing experiences. At Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, we sell the outdoor experience first, and the gear second. Having a NOLS experience on an application or resume can fast track someone to being part of our retail environment faster than anything else. I would highly recommend a NOLS course to anyone in the outdoor retail business.

Founded in 1965 by legendary mountaineer Paul Petzoldt, the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) is the leader in wilderness education and sets the industry standard for responsible, high-quality educational expeditions. NOLS provides an awe-inspiring, transformative experience that develops active, positive leaders with lifelong environmental ethics and outdoor skills to more than 10,000 students each year. A private non-profit school, NOLS runs 10-day to school-year-length courses on four continents. NOLS students, ages 14 to over 70, explore the most remote wilderness the Rocky Mountains, Idaho, Pacific Northwest, Southwest, Alaska, Western Canada, Mexico, Patagonia (Chile), India, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Baffin Island have to offer. College credit and scholarships are available. For more information, call NOLS at (800) 710-NOLS (6657) or visit the web site at www.nols.edu.
