Nikki Kimball Reigns as Western States Women’s Champion

The North Face Endurance Team triumphs at ultrarunning’s marquis event with four top-15 finishes

SAN LEANDRO, California—June 26, 2007 — The North Face, the world's premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, today announced team results of the 100-mile Western States Endurance Run 2007, which took place June 23 – 24, 2007.

The North Face athlete Nikki Kimball, 36, took first place in the women's division, with a time of 18:12:37, her new personal record. Kimball crossed the finish line beaming with energy, an ear-to-ear-smile and jumped to tap the time clock as she crossed the finish line. This is her third time running the race and her third first place finish.

James Bonnett, a crowd favorite, beat his personal record by 31 seconds with a time of 19:41:51, finishing 12th in the men's division. This was 20-year-old James' third Western States. Teammate Guillermo Medina finished close behind James with a time of 20:08:09. The two were neck-and-neck for portions of the 100-mile course, teasing and encouraging each other throughout with camaraderie that is The North Face Endurance Team. Kami Semick, recent winner of the Miwok 100K, finished 8th in the women's division with a time of 21:40:49.

Race icon Tim Twietmeyer, Board President of the 100-Mile Western States Endurance Run, participated for the first time in 25 years from the other side of the line, as an official, and presented his The North Face teammates with their trophies and buckles on Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of hundreds.

The course started at 6,200 feet in Squaw Valley, California, leading runners up a climb of 2,550 vertical feet in the first 4.5 miles to Emigrant Pass at 8,750 feet. The majority of the trail passes through remote and rugged territory, accessible only to horses, hikers and helicopters. Following the original trails used by the miners of the 1850s, the course travels west, climbing another 15,540 feet and descending 22,970 feet to end in Auburn, California, at 100.2 miles.
