CHARLOTTE, NC (JUNE 18, 2019) – Mountain Khakis®, the leading premium outdoor apparel outfitter for Men and Women, is pleased to announce its partnership with the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary, which supports the greater Yellowstone ecosystem as a whole. Mountain Khakis will also be sponsoring a very special resident of the sanctuary, Speedy, a charismatic bison that’s been charming visitors for over a decade.
The greater Yellowstone ecosystem is home to the largest concentration of wildlife in the lower 48 states, including grizzly, moose elk and bison. Speedy, the Sanctuary’s most notable animal, has official been adopted by Mountain Khakis. Funding Speedy’s everyday expenses, such as hay and vet costs, as well as allowing the staff at the sanctuary to upgrade her diet to include specialty grains and supplements essential to her health as she grows older, Mountain Khakis is excited to have its own company ‘mascot’ as an official member of the family.
“When we learned about the outstanding and important work being done by the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary it was an instant attraction,” said Mountain Khakis President, Jeremy Hale. “Being situated so close to where our brand was founded, in Jackson Hole, we were thrilled to learn about Speedy the Bison. We are excited to sponsor Speedy in 2019 as we help her lead a safe and peaceful life, within the comfort of the Sanctuary, and under the loving care of the amazing team at the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary. We are eager to continue to progress through a myriad of ideas on how our two organizations can grow in partnership with each other.”
When Speedy was born, she was much smaller than her twin, and rejected by her mother. She was taken in by humans, who hand-raised her. As a tiny calf, she wandered their house, sat in their laps, and went for rides in the back seat of their convertible. After putting some weight on her and making sure she was healthy, they attempted to reintroduce Speedy to her herd. By then, she was too exposed and familiar with human interaction so was unable to successfully be released back into the herd. She was too big for the house life by then, so Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks stepped in to help, that’s when she became a permanent resident at the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary. Speedy got her name because of her tendency — especially when she was young — to rush to the fence to greet visitors. Bison are an iconic part of the American west, and she swiftly became one of the Sanctuary’s most popular residents.
“We’re thrilled to have Mountain Khakis as a partner,” said Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary Executive Director Gary Robson. “As an ecologically-minded apparel brand, they share our vision and the culture of our little mountain town. By taking on the costs of caring for Speedy, they help us with our focus of caring for non-releasable native wildlife.”
Mountain Khakis has also released a T-shirt collection for Men and Women that is available online and at select retailers. 5% of all sales from this collection will be donated, above and beyond the Mountain Khakis commitment, to the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary.
