LEKI, the world's leading manufacturer of Skiing, Trekking and Nordic Walking poles, and Fleet Feet Sports in Boulder, CO have teamed up to promote Nordic Walking to the residents of Boulder with a series of clinics held during the June 2009 Boulder Walk and Bike month celebration. Presented by Go Boulder (City of Boulder) and coordinated by Community Cycles, Walk & Bike Month encourages thousands of commuters to explore their transportation options.

Anyone, in any shape and any age, can benefit from Nordic Walking. By using poles to engage the upper body and redistribute weight bearing to the lower extremity, the cardiovascular benefits and caloric demands of walking are dramatically increased. Specifically, it can help lower blood pressure, burn up to 40 percent more calories, increase oxygen consumption by 20 percent, reduce cholesterol, and help to relieve back, shoulder and neck pain compared to regular walking.

Three Nordic Walking clinics designed to teach Nordic Walking basics and pole technique will be held at Fleet Feet Sports during the month of June:

Saturday, June 6, 13, and 20
9 – 10 a.m.
Fleet Feet Sports Boulder
2624 Broadway Street

LEKI Nordic Walking demo poles will be provided to all participants for use during the clinic. And as part of the June promotion, the first five people registered for each clinic will receive a New Balance pedometer, and LEKI will be raffling off a pair of Nordic Walking poles at each clinic. For more information or to register for one of the clinics, contact Fleet Feet Sports at 303.939.8000 or Kathy@fleetfeetboulder.com.
