Choose Outdoors Outdoor Recreation Resolution

Whereas the people of these United States have been blessed with and bonded to a bounty of natural areas, outdoor recreation opportunities, and activities; and

Whereas the people of these United States had the foresight and possess the will to preserve and protect a spectacular array of lands and waters – public and private – forests, parks, preserves, and open spaces; and

Whereas those lands and waters offer an increasingly urbanized populace vast opportunities to connect with nature; recreate; and experience physical, mental and spiritual renewal; and

Whereas access to and enjoyment of those lands and waters stands as an inalienable right and cherished heritage; and

Whereas enjoyment of the outdoor world is crucial to the health of the American people, our communities and our economy; and

Whereas the American people must be introduced to, reconnected with, and afforded access to the physical and mental benefits inherent to active, outdoor recreation, adventures and lifestyles;

Be it resolved that:

1) The outdoor community shall seek – through collective action – to better serve the greater good of outdoor recreation, the natural world, and the American people.

2) The companies, associations, alliances and members of the greater outdoor recreation community shall unite around common agendas on behalf of outdoor recreation and active outdoor lifestyles.

3) This united outdoor recreation community shall work with public and private interests to provide and promote the full spectrum of quality outdoor opportunities, venues and infrastructure.

4) This united outdoor recreation community shall promote the benefits – physical, mental, spiritual, social and economic – from interaction with the natural world and outdoor recreation.

5) This united outdoor recreation community shall work with governments – federal, state and local – to prioritize outdoor recreation and active outdoor lifestyles.

6) This united outdoor recreation community shall work to connect youth with the natural world, their natural heritage, and the joys and benefits of outdoor recreation.
