As official charity partner of the Sports Authority Rock ’n’ Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon,First Descents announces its exclusive apparel partnership with C9 by Champion. In 2012, all Team FD runners will compete in C9 apparel (t-shirts, pants, shorts, leggings and long sleeve shirts) – starting with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon. Team FD is being represented by more than 100 runners at the October 9th race; a record for First Descents.

Runners who are part of Team FD, First Descents’ fundraising force, set fundraising goals of more than $300 each to gain race entry for this marathon. Team FD has raised more than $27,000 to race in Denver. Thanks to that fundraising, more than 27 young adults fighting and surviving cancer will have the opportunity to attend a First Descents outdoor adventure program. The number of racers wearing Team FD jerseys from C9 is more than First Descents has ever seen at any sporting event.

First Descents is a Denver-based non-profit providing outdoor adventure therapy to young adults (18-39) fighting and surviving cancer through free, week-long kayaking, rocking climbing or surfing programs. Of the more than 100 runners, 25 are past First Descents program participants.

“It’s been so exciting to see the number of people joining Team FD for this marathon. This is the perfect place to launch our partnership with C9,” says Lisa Goldstein, First Descents Team FD Manager. “It’s because of events like these, sponsors and our awesome Team FD team members, that First Descents has grown to more than 27 week-long programs this year.”

Team FD is still taking last-minute race entrants. Anyone interested in running the Denver Marathon or ½ Marathon can sign up hereor by contacting Lisa Goldstein at lisa.goldstein@firstdescents.org.

Team FD is made up of athletes and cancer survivors at all levels of competition, each sharing the goal of supporting First Descents and the young adult cancer population. Team FD is all about challenge. It’s about each individual picking an activity which represents a challenge to him or her, training for it, setting a fundraising goal and completing that challenge.
