Black Diamond Equipment Ltd., a global leader in climbing, skiing and backcountry gear, is hosting the 1st Annual Salt Lake Climbers Alliance Fundraiser this Thursday night, May 20, 2010. The event will take place in front of Black Diamond’s SLC headquarters, in the parking lot, otherwise know as the BD Courtyard, at 2084 East & 3900 South.
“Black Diamond hopes the 1st Annual Salt Lake Climbers Alliance Fundraiser Party will grow into an annual event on our community calendar, similar to the Utah Avalanche Center Fundraising party, now in its 17th year,” explains Colleen Nipkow, Marketing Manager for Black Diamond. “It will bring Salt Lake’s vibrant climbing community together to benefit a great cause and hopefully encourage climbers unfamiliar with the SLCA to lend a helping hand.”
The Salt Lake Climbers’ Alliance is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, created to promote climbing opportunities, SLCA preserves local climbing access and encourages stewardship of the environment. Located within minutes of Salt Lake City, the Wasatch Mountains are a climber’s paradise. These mountains host an incredible variety of climbing terrain, from long, multi-pitch routes in alpine settings to a lifetime of bouldering. Unknown to most climbers however, is the patchwork of private and public lands that make up the boundaries of the Wasatch. From private property to wilderness, this variety of land ownership is almost as diverse as the rock types themselves. In the past, infrequent use of many areas kept access problems to a minimum. These days, pressure on the Wasatch canyons is at an all-time high, not only from climbers, but also from a large pool of recreational user-groups.
The event will run from 6-10pm and will include an evening full of music, food, drinks and slideshows to benefit SLCA. It will be held outdoors, rain or shine. All children under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult and please no dogs! Tickets are currently being sold at both the BD retail store and I.M.E. for $35. Premium tickets are $50. This includes: annual SLCA membership fees, entrance to fundraiser and a pair of gym passes.
Associated sponsors include: Martine, Lortsher & Vlasic, Desert Edge Brewery, Stella Grill, Red Butte Café, Momentum Indoor Climbing, The Quarry, the Front Climbing Club, Rockreation, Mountainworks, IME, Liberty Mountain, REI and Mountain Adventures. Please join us in celebrating the alpine spirit of Seth Shaw at Black Diamond’s 1st Annual SLCA Fundraiser.
