Black Diamond Equipment, a leading global innovator in climbing, skiing and mountain sports equipment, announces another series of awards for upcoming 2011/12 winter products (click here to see video on award winning products).

“Our comprehensive R&D process, lab time and field testing continues to benefit BD in terms of earning these accolades,” explains Peter Metcalf, President and CEO of Black Diamond Equipment. “Winning these awards conveys our team’s ability to understand consumer demand and build relevant, thoughtfully inspired products whether they are magnetic carabiners, active frame technology backpacks, full-featured headlamps or high performance skis and boots.”

Coming on the heels of Backpacker’s Spring 2011 Editors’ Choice award for the Ultra Distance Z-Pole Series trekking poles, Black Diamond Equipment carries that momentum forward with awards for its new 2011/12 winter products from Backcountry, Freeskier, Powder and Skiing magazines.

Backcountry Magazine
awarded “Editor’s Choice” awards to the following new products: AMPerage ski, women’s Ember ski, Factor 130 freeride boot and Push telemark boot.

Freeskier Magazine awarded “Editor’s Pick 2011/12” to the following new products: AMPerage ski, Compactor Z-Pole ski pole and the Bandit AvaLung ski pack.

Powder Magazine awarded “Skier’s Choice” awards to the following products: AMPerage ski, Megawatt ski, Factor 130 freeride boot, Quadrant alpine touring boot and women's Swift alpine touring boot.

Skiing Magazine awarded “Official Selection” awards to the following new products: women's Element ski, Verdict ski and Zealot ski.

“Now all we need is the snow to start flying,” comments Ski Category Director Thomas Laakso. “The overwhelmingly positive reception to the debut of the new 2011/12 ski and boot line is very gratifying. We believe our keen understanding of the shifting needs and increased expectations of today’s skiers helps us build better skis and boots. It is not all about race boots and GS skis any longer. It’s about seeing the whole mountain from a new playful perspective, with gear that can turn in any snow type or make any part of the mountain epic. Great to see more and more people believing in our vision and ripping it up on our skis and boots.”
