Rapid City, SD (May 5, 2018) — More than 250 tykes took part in the Strider Cup Race on May 5 at Sundance Square in Fort Worth, Texas, to kick off National Bike Month. Children ages six years old and under rode the balance bikes along the 400-foot plus journey over ramps, tires and other obstacles. The youngest competitor came from near Sacramento, California – diaper-clad 19-month-old Onyx Allen, whose mom has been showing him Strider racing videos for the past few months.

The Strider Cup, held in venues across the country, is powered by the revolutionary design of Strider Bikes, which empowers toddlers and young children to safely enjoy the mobility and independence of two-wheel biking at an earlier age than any prior generation.

The Fort Worth event is the first of four U.S. Strider racing events. This was the second time Strider has hosted a race in Texas. Families came from around the Lone Star State, as well as eight other states, Mexico and Costa Rica.

“Hudson started riding his Strider Bike before he turned 2 years old,” said his mother Adrianna Cox of Dallas. Hudson won the 2-year-old and under class. “It’s amazing how his balance has progressed. It’s so much easier for kids to learn to ride on balance bikes than to use training wheels. The Strider race today was a great experience for the little guys to compete and have fun. Everyone was so supportive and cheering each other on – we loved it!”

All racers were treated to a celebratory podium award ceremony after their main race, where each received a medal, and the top ten finishers took home trophies – some taller than they were. In addition to Hudson Cox taking home the 2-year-old class trophy, Jameson Gilbert came down from Houston and took the top spot on the podium for 3-year-old racers, Pasha Ali of Trophy Club, Texas, won the 4-year-old class. Brecken Yingling, a 6-year-old from Topeka, Kansas, came in first place in the 14x open class.

Event sponsors Springfree Trampolines, Bicycles Inc., Splash Kingdom, The Sufferfest and Honey Stinger provided additional family activities.

During the lunch hour, Strider presented the Down Syndrome Partnership of North Texas with 10 Strider 14x Sport Bikes, designed for children 3-7 years old.

Fort Worth marks the first stop along the way for the 2018 U.S. races, with additional Strider Cup races in Cleveland, Ohio, May 25 and Charlotte, North Carolina, June 16. The summer of two-wheeled fun culminates July 20–21 in Boulder, Colorado, with the Strider Cup World Championship, an international toddler racing celebration attracting families from across the globe for two days of camaraderie, excitement and racing.
