Golden, Colorado, 1/7/20 Big City Mountaineers (BCM) has announced its 2020 lineup of “Summit for Someone” adventure fundraisers. Eleven adventures are scheduled across the country for the spring, summer, and early fall: seven are guided hikes, traverses, and summit attempts, and four are Ragnar Trail Relay races.

Participants in the Summit for Someone program get to experience a free iconic outdoor adventure and give outdoor opportunities to youth from disinvested communities through fundraising.

Each participant selects a trip with a set date and fundraising goal. In the months before their adventure, they crowdsource funds from their communities and train for the challenge with a free personalized training plan provided by Mountain Fitness Research. Once they meet their fundraising goal, they race to the finish line or attempt a guided summit, traverse, or hike.

Trips scheduled for 2020 cater to all levels of outdoor enthusiasts, and all proceeds support overnight camp and week-long wilderness expedition experiences for youth from disinvested communities.

“Summit for Someone trips are a great opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts who are keen to give back as they enjoy their own adventures,” explains Bryan Martin, Executive Director at Big City Mountaineers. “As participants fundraise, they are actively breaking down barriers to outdoor access for youth who might not otherwise have immersive experiences in nature.”

Summit for Someone guided adventures in 2020 include a southern Appalachian backpacking trip focused on photography, a hut-to-hut traverse of the Presidential range in New Hampshire, and summits of Grand Teton, Mount Whitney, and Mount Hood. Ragnar Trail Relay teams will run in Colorado, California, Washington, and Wisconsin.
