PARK CITY, Utah — It's award season, when the best performers of the year take home the coveted trophies bestowed upon them by their industries' powerful taste makers. First the Nobel, soon the Oscars, Grammys, and Golden Globes, but now the one that everyone's been waiting for...Backcountry.com's 2009 Vendor of the Year.

After sorting through nominations of the more than 450 vendor partners of high-end gear that Backcountry.com sells, the secret panel of buyers, sellers and marketers today crowned Smith Optics as Backcountry.com's 2009 Vendor of the Year

Judges summed up their enthusiasm by saying that Smith is great at everything and they make it look effortless: innovative product, outstanding marketing support, a high level of interaction with Backcountry.com's business, their dialed logistics and fulfillment, and major support with customer service training. The perfect partner.

"Smith continues to push the industry by combining cutting edge technology with fashion-forward designs," said Jeff Snyder, Backcountry.com's vice president of merchandising. "They have a high level of interaction with our business that includes marketing, customer service training and product performance. Their fulfillment and logistics are second to no one. We look forward to continued growth with Smith Optics and are proud to be associated with the brand."

In recognition of the award, Smith receives the coveted Plaque and a high five. Sure it's no golden statuette but that's so it won't get ripped off from the lunch room.

"In every backcountry posse there is always one guy or girl that will kick butt. They can break trail for a couple of extra switchbacks, lead extra pitches, rig a camp stove and patch your boat all while rallying the troops in the face of adversity," said Snyder. "Smith’s extra effort, dedication and optimism make them leaders by default and that’s what we looked for when it came to choosing our 2009 Vendor of the Year."

Congatulations from everyone at Backcountry.com.
