This fall, hundreds of high level outdoor industry professionals will head to Boston for Outdoor Industry Association's (OIA) 13th annual Rendezvous, the premier leadership and learning conference for the industry.

Held at the Boston Park Plaza, in Boston, Massachusetts September 30 – October 2, 2008, the conference will feature globally prominent speakers to engage attendees in dialogue and discovery to explore new ideas, trends and business models. Topics include: emerging markets and trends, sustainable business practices, global issues and economics, retail trends and models, management and CEO coaching, as well as aspirational presentations for the armchair adventurer. Featured speakers include Robert F Kennedy, Jr., Joel Makower of Greener World Media, Ken Rudin of National Public Radio, and futurist and trend spotter, Marian Salzman of JWT Worldwide.

Boston's commitment to keep outdoor recreation a priority in planning, development, and preservation has not gone unnoticed by the outdoor industry. Known as “America's Walking City, Boston has implemented model programs such as the Grow Boston Greener tree planting initiative and the new Rose Kennedy Greenway – part of the parks system built along the "big dig" – to be completed in 2008.

“Boston and the surrounding area is a community that clearly supports outdoor recreation; the driving force behind the success and growth of the outdoor industry,” remarked Frank Hugelmeyer, president of OIA. “The convenient location will also enable industry members to easily and efficiently attend, whether by car or plane.”

A hotbed of outdoor product manufacturers, specialty outdoor retailers, and other industry services and businesses, the outdoor industry is a big economic contributor to the region's economy. According to the Active Outdoor Recreation Economy Report by Outdoor Industry Foundation, New England's economic contribution of outdoor recreation jobs, gear retail sales, trip-related sales and taxes (federal and state) amounts to an impressive $22.9 billion to the regional and national economy each year.

Rendezvous registration is now open and due to sell out crowds last year, early registration is strongly encouraged. For a complete listing of speakers and events, or to register, visit http://www.outdoorindustry.org.
