The National Sporting Goods Association announced three new inductees for the Sporting Goods Hall of Fame and it reads like a who's who of the outdoor and snow-sports industries. Gert Boyle of Columbia Sportswear, Jake Burton Carpenter of Burton Snowboards, and Pat Galyan of Galyan's will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 39th Annual NSGA Management Conference in Phoeniz, Ariz. The Hall of Fame recognizes industry leaders who have been pioneers and innovators in their field, and each 2003 recipient fits the bill. Boyle took over Columbia after her husband died and built it into a multi-million-dollar, publicly traded company. Burton is credited with the birth of modern-day snowboarding, while Galyan strove for larger stores to provide customers with greater product assortments with an emphasis on customer service. The award breakfast is at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa on May 20, 2003, and is co-sponsored by Mizuno USA and New Balance.
