Retailer Sports Chalet is whipping up a festive grand opening for its 26th store in the ritzy South Coast Plaza in Orange County in Southern California with a VIP event tonight. If you were in SoCal, you'd find high school marching bands winding through the plaza, serenading invited guests that include local Orange County dignitaries, along with officials from South Coast Plaza, the California Interscholastic Federation (for high school athletes), and Sport Chalet (Nasdaq: SPCH). Also in attendance are expected to be representatives from Nike, Spalding, Reebok, Salomon, North Face, Rollerblade, and Adidas. But marching bands won't fill the bill. The event will also include a fashion show featuring the ski wear of Bogner, technical product seminars put on by specialty manufacturers, and even "door prizes." For more, go to www.sportchalet.com
