| Clashing Cultures
Jul 1, 2006 I've been working in the outdoor retail industry for years, but this was my first year working in the states. I had never come across such an amusing day like this before. To start with my accent (I'm from New Zealand) doesn't help the situation when talking to customers who don't understand you that well. | Crossing the Big Lake
Jul 1, 2006 It had been a quiet week up here in Lake Wobegon country when He walked in. He began asking questions about tents that came in black. Well, there aren’t any. But, we asked, wouldn’t a black tent be depressing? Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all Survivor - Outdoor Retail SNEWS Writing Contest 2006 |

Jul 1, 2006 The bike shop that I work at is in a college town, so we have many interesting people stopping in. Surprisingly enough, many of the more interesting people are not students, but professors! Read Story | Comment on this story | Go to all Survivor - Outdoor Retail SNEWS Writing Contest 2006 |

| Shoe Sale Psychology (Top 10 Finalist)
Jul 1, 2006 My co-worker Peter and I have been driven to insanity. I think it is because of shoe sales. The sun is barely up and we’ve already been mountain biking for a while, in order to get out before the store opens. Like Calvin and Hobbes discussing philosophy on an out-of-control radio-flyer, we’re bombing down some local single-track while discussing the psychology behind outdoor shoe sales. | Somebody Made a Stinky
Jul 1, 2006 It was a chilly, damp spring day with the threat of rain in the forecast. I had just returned from my lunch break when I greeted two women with four kids in tow. Three of them were chatty 5 to 6 year olds. The youngest child, a toddler, was the quiet one. But that didn't last for long. | Something Smells
Jul 1, 2006 A few summers ago I worked in a small shop in western Massachusetts near my home in Vermont. The shop is a destination for hikers. It is where the Long Trail starts, and where AT through-hikers filled up on white gas, slept, swam in the river, or hosed off. Being in a town where many tourists come to see the art and theater in the area, mixing the grungy, yet happy-go-lucky hikers and the tourists in the same shop was comical to watch. | Up the Creek With Too Many Paddles (Top 10 Finalist)
Jul 1, 2006 Several Christmas seasons ago a frequent customer came in to buy the perfect gift for his wife (canoe, paddles, and pfd's). He was glad to finally have his shopping for the big surprise over, and we arranged for delivery when help would be available to hide the presents at his home. Fitnex E55SG Elliptical Sep 14, 2011 So many ellipticals can be large and pricy, and the though the smaller ones may have a lower price tag, what they give up to get there makes for a more wobbly ride that’s not as much fun. The Fitnex E55SG elliptical manages to be rather petite but still can hold its own when a user pushes it hard. Read Review | Comment on this review | Go to all Product Reviews |
