SANTA BARBARA, CAPurnell has always infused a subtle level of tech into classic sportswear – Now the purposeful designers at Purnell are introducing high-performance, moisture-wicking, quick-dry fabrics into the line, bringing timeless styles into the world of modern outdoor recreation.
Among the new pieces being unveiled at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show (booth PV2205), four unique technical options will offer all-day versatility by combining performance fabrics with classic silhouettes.
“The quick-dry pieces open up a new range of activity without sacrificing style,” said Purnell cofounder Brita Womack. “We’re very happy with these new fabric blends, which retain Purnell’s signature style and soft handfeel while offering advanced performance characteristics.”

Purnell got its start making clothes because the kinds of clothes it makes didn’t exist. Clothes for people who work with their hands and think on their feet but still want to look sharp. Using a less-is-more approach, classic styles are reinvented to include only details that have a practical function: comfort, ease of movement, better fit. The result is a classic – yet functional and athletic – line that’s equally at home at the studio, the worksite and the campsite. Purnell is part of a family of businesses called the DA Design Group, which works to promote sustainable living through technical innovation. Whether it’s capturing wind energy, harnessing ocean currents, building sustainable housing or designing better clothes, the DA Design Group approaches challenges with curiosity, functionality and ingenuity.
