KENT, WA, USA and KATHMANDU, NEPAL -- Sherpa Adventure Gear® the outdoor clothing company signs with Outside Media to manage and execute its public relations strategy and communications efforts to expand awareness of the brand, products and philanthropic mission.
“Sherpa Adventure Gear and Outside Media are a great fit because our teams are set on making a difference and telling stories that go beyond great gear,” says Outside Media vice president Hilary Hutcheson. “We are stirred by Sherpa Adventure Gear’s history, mission, humanitarian efforts and products. We’re looking forward to telling meaningful stories about this impressive brand.”
In 2003, Tashi Sherpa founded Sherpa Adventure Gear to honor his heritage and specifically his uncle's spirit. His uncle was one of the original Sherpa in the infamous 1953 expedition to the summit of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary. Sherpa Adventure gear is committed to staying true to the values it was founded upon and creating great gear. The brand seeks to honor the legendary high-altitude climbers by creating adventure great that earns their praises. But, most importantly it is focused on providing economic and social stability to the people of Nepal by providing steady employment and quality working conditions that turn into opportunities for the community when the landscape of employment is dramatically changing in the region.
The Himalayas and the people located there are the true inspiration and influence around all of the products produced by Sherpa Adventure Gear. With many products produced in Nepal, each product is created and tested by Sherpas in the harsh Himalayan environment.
In 2012, Sherpa Adventure Gear established a scholarship program called the Paldorje Education Fund to provide underprivileged Sherpa children financial assistance for their education, including college. A portion of sales from all Sherpa Adventure Gear products goes directly to the scholarship fund. Personal donations are also accepted. This program opens the door to better opportunities for the next generation through education.
“With the help of Outside Media, we are looking forward to expanding the awareness of our brand and products,” says Tsedo Sherpa, Sherpa Adventure Gear’s chief operating officer. “Talking about our brand in an authentic way is essential for us. How we speak to the consumer is important not only because we are a unique company but also because the more people who know our brand and buy our products the more it enables us to help where we can. We are confident that the team at Outside Media will help us achieve our goals.”

The company employs hundreds in Kathmandu and Nepal at its headquarters, stores and manufacturing operations. Marketing and North American sales and distribution is based in Kent, Washington. A portion of every sale benefits the education of Sherpa children through the Paldorje Education Fund, an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable arm the company established in May 2012.
