FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kailua-Kona, HI- Rudy Project, the #1 Most-Worn Helmet at the 2015 IRONMAN® World Championships presented by GoPro®, just concluded an exciting week at Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii filled with sunshine, sweat, and some outstanding athlete performances. In addition the success of the competitors, Rudy Project shattered all records winning LAVA Magazine’s prestigious Helmet Count for the fifth consecutive year.

“It’s almost unbelievable how well our company, athletes, celebrities and age-groupers did on the Big Island this year,” said Paul Craig, President and Co-founder of Rudy Project North America. “Between smashing industry records by taking the 5th consecutive helmet count victory, and the incredible performance of our two stores on Ali’i drive, I know Rudy Project will continue to grow within the sport and become a staple in every triathlete’s equipment bag.”

One of the most notable performances of the day came from long-time Rudy Project athlete Andy Potts, who crossed the finish line in fourth for the second year in a row. Andy’s outstanding swim set the pace for his race, and he continued to persevere through 140.6 miles in the sweltering Hawaiian heat. On the women’s side, Sarah Piampiano found herself at the back of the field as she headed into T1, but her tremendous bike and run splits led to an impressive seventh place. Rudy fielded a total of 639 athletes in the event.

Celebrity athletes, Sean Astin (Rudy, Lord of the Rings, The Goonies) and Katherine Kelly Lang (TV Star of The Bold and the Beautiful) also rocked the 140.6 mile race course on Saturday in Rudy Project helmets and sunglasses, both racing in honor of distinguished charities and both tackling their first full distance IRONMAN®. Kelly competed in honor of Women For Tri as well as Breakaway From Cancer, and Sean conquered this feat in order to raise money for his own charity and inspiring online campaign, #Run3rd®.

Days before the race, Sean and Kelly were given the special opportunity to speak about their charities with key triathlon business figures, media editors, Rudy enthusiasts and a handful of Rudy Project’s top professionals at its exclusive 30th Anniversary Party at the Hulihe’e Palace. Barry Siff, President of USA Triathlon Board led a Q&A session with Kelly and Sean, in addition to pro triathletes Sarah Piampiano and Pedro Gomes. And CEO of IRONMAN®, Andrew Messick, said a few words thanking Rudy Project for its support and sponsorship as the Official Helmet of IRONMAN® for North America.

Along with the accomplishments of Rudy Project sponsored athletes, professional and amateur alike, there was never a dull moment at the Rudy Project Village located at Uncle Billy’s Hotel, or the Rudy Project year-round store on Ali’i Drive. Competitors and spectators were anxious to check out the latest gear for 2016 all week, including the Tralyx full-shield performance sunglass and the Wing57, now available with updated designs and colors.
