Williston, VT (August 8, 2014) – Mammut, the Swiss quality providers of alpine gear and apparel, was excited to team up with Big City Mountaineers to summit Mt. Whitney as part of their ongoing commitment and international programs to promote wilderness "Access for All.” The team climbed the Mountaineer’s Route through abundant late-season snow to summit on August 5 at 9:35 AM with SWS Mountain Guides.
Big City Mountaineers (BCM) is a non-profit organization that transforms the lives of under-served urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions. Their mission is to instill critical life skills in teens through outdoor expeditions. Mammut was honored to have the opportunity to partner with BCM on the heels of Mammut’s successful “150 Peaks Project” to promote wilderness access.
The summit team included Mammut AG CEO, Rolf Schmid, Mammut AG Chief Sales Officer, Andreas Kessler, Mammut North America CEO, Bill Supple, photographer and BCM fundraiser, Forest Woodward, AIM Media SVP, Jonathan Dorn, and former BCM program participant, Amy Tam.
Amy Tam’s background paints an incredible picture of how Big City Mountaineers transforms the lives of teens. After joining BCM for a 2012 expedition she discovered a passion for outdoor education and participated in Outdoor Educators Institute, a 10-week workforce training program, the following year. Currently, she is working for both Environmental Traveling Companions and East Bay Recreation and Park leading others in outdoor activities.
“Big City Mountaineers is an excellent organization and we were proud to summit alongside them,” says Mammut AG CEO, Rolf Schmid. “More so, we are proud to promote the important message of access, especially for underserved youth who may not otherwise be able to benefit from outdoor immersement.”
