NORTHFIELD, Vt. — Touched by the devastation to many Colorado communities in the wake of recent flooding, which saw more than 17 inches of rain fall last week, Darn Tough Vermont has pledged to donate 1,000 pairs of socks to those in need in the area. A partnership between the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and Colorado Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster has created HelpColoradoNow.org and they will strategically distribute the men’s, women’s and children’s socks throughout the state to communities hit hardest by the flooding.
“I am a University of Colorado graduate and Boulder is near and dear to my heart,” said Ric Cabot, president and CEO of Darn Tough Vermont. “The State of Vermont received support from all around the country when we faced similar flooding from Tropical Storm Irene two years ago and we thought this was a great opportunity to help out those in Colorado who are dealing with similar circumstances.”
“Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper even recently compared their situation to what took place here in Vermont and how they will bounce back from this because they are ‘Colorado Tough,’” Cabot added.
The flooding has impacted parts of 15 counties in Colorado. According to early state emergency management office estimates, more than 19,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed throughout the flooded areas.
