Retailers Will Sweat As They Learn New Ways to Profit at

The Running Event, Dec. 1 to 4, 2015, Austin

AUSTIN (August 20, 2015) – The first two featured exhibitors confirmed for The Running Event (TRE) Experiential Zone are Spartan Race, based in Boston, the global leader in the sport of obstacle racing, and ElliptiGO®, the San Diego-based company that created the world’s first elliptical bicycle – a combination of an elliptical trainer and a bicycle that closely mimics the running motion.

According to an announcement today by Troy Leonard, show director of the Dec. 1 to 4, 2015, conference and trade show in Austin, both companies will provide an opportunity for retailers to participate in an interactive demonstration of obstacle course racing (OCR), and ElliptiGO’s low-impact running device. Other cutting-edge brands will also be on display.

Spartan Race founder and CEO Joe De Sena, called by Outside magazine, “the most punishing man in fitness,” will deliver a keynote presentation on Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. titled, “Growing Beyond Traditional Running,” With over four million participants expected in 2015, obstacle racing is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with more participants than marathons, half marathons, and triathlons. This explosive growth presents an exciting opportunity for runners and retailers alike.

The new TRE Experiential Zone will be adjacent to the main hall of the Austin Convention Center and will feature a custom-designed indoor Spartan Race course for all event participants to try out with scheduled heats from the afternoon of Dec. 2 through the morning of Dec. 4. The ElliptiGO demonstrations will run concurrently.

“We’re inviting retailers to get their hearts pumping and build up a sweat as they consider new ways to profit from non-traditional running-related activities that can help them expand beyond core runners,” said TRE’s Troy Leonard.

The 10th anniversary of the TRE conference and trade show, produced by Formula4 Media, Great Neck, N.Y., will attract 900-plus specialty retailers from around the world representing 400-plus store locations. The TRE Experiential Zone is a new attraction that will complement two days of educational seminars, and a 1-1/2-day trade show featuring over 300 exhibitors including the major shoe, apparel, accessory and sports technology brands.

Spartan Race – voted Outside magazine’s Best Obstacle Race – is the world’s leading obstacle race company and the first of its kind to feature timing and global rankings.
