Leatherman Commits to Protect America’s Wild Places by Joining The Conservation Alliance
The Portland, Oregon company is proud to join like-minded outdoor brands
Portland, OR—September 16, 2015— Leatherman Tool Group Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of high quality multi-tools, is pleased to announce that it has partnered with The Conservation Alliance to help protect wilderness for future generations.
Aligning core values, Leatherman joined The Conservation Alliance in July 2015. Through this partnership, Leatherman will support the Alliance’s mission to protect wilderness areas their habitat and recreation significance.
Leatherman jumped into Conservation Alliance support this summer, hosting a booth happy hour at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, Utah, with proceeds going to the Alliance. In August, Leatherman employees took part in the Backyard Collective event at Forrest Park in Portland, Oregon, spending the day on trail work and outdoor restoration projects.
“Leatherman’s mission is to create products that prepare people for both the expected and the unexpected,” said Ben Rivera, President of Leatherman Tool Group. “We hear countless stories every year about how a Leatherman multi-tool has assisted someone in the wilderness – helped to whittle a stick, fix some gear, start a fire, prepare food, or perform first aid. As a member of The Conservation Alliance, we’re proud to also help protect wild spaces for many more generations of outdoor enthusiasts - including our employees, colleagues, and customers - to enjoy.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Leatherman, another Oregon company, as the newest member of The Conservation Alliance,” said John Sterling, executive director of The Conservation Alliance. “Ben and the Leatherman team share our not only our backyard, but also our commitment to protecting wild places. With their support, we will continue to push forward key conservation initiatives in Oregon and across North America.”
Since its inception in 1989, The Conservation Alliance and its member companies, have helped to protect 44 million acres, 2945 river miles, removed or halted 26 dams, purchased 10 climbing areas and designated five marine reserves. Most recently, The Conservation Alliance celebrated the designation of the Boulder White Clouds Wilderness, which it has been working to protect since 1998. In August 2015, the U.S. Senate voted unanimously to bestow Wilderness designation for the 275,000 acres of federal land in Central Idaho.
