Bergans USA Hires New Customer Service Manager and Expands Headquarters

LONGMONT, CO – October 1, 2014 – Technical outdoor apparel and backpack brand,Bergans of Norway announced staffing changes and expansion of its North American subsidiary, Bergans USA. The company has hired Ryan Pennock as customer service manager and added 4,000-square-feet to its Longmont, CO facility.

The 106-year old Norwegian company opened Bergans USA, a wholly owned subsidiary, in January 2012, and the company has seen significant expansion of its dealer base and 75+ percent average sales growth per year.

“We are excited to have Ryan join our team; as the Bergans brand continues to grow in North America, we continue to focus on servicing our dealer, customer, and reps in the best way possible,” explains, Bergans USA VP of Sales and Marketing Keith Patterson.

Pennock comes to Bergans with in-depth experience in sales and retail management. He most recently managed select GoLite stores in the Denver area. Prior to GoLite, he worked at Sierra Trading Post as a gear and product specialist.

"With the amount of resources available to retailers and consumers, and competition at an all-time high, if people don’t feel taken care of they’ll simply move on,” said Pennock. “At Bergans that’s not something we’re necessarily worried about, it’s more of a challenge we are prepared to meet head on. We are going to refine and personalize our approach; focusing on the individual. A tailored customer service experience is our goal.”

In addition, Bergans USA has added 4,000-square-feet to its existing facility. The expansion includes a new dealer showroom and more warehousing space to accommodate its growing inventory to support the company’s sales increases.

Bergans was established in 1908, when Ole Ferdinand Bergan invented the first anatomical backpack. Today backpacks, functional outdoor clothing and tents are part of the portfolio of Bergans of Norway, as well as the ALLY brand of packable canoes. Adventurers such as South Pole conqueror Roald Amundsen, Mount Everest pioneer Sir Edmund Hillary, and heroes of our time such as Polar explorers Rune Gjeldnes or Cecilie Skog trust Bergans equipment on their expeditions.

The Scandinavian brand was established in 1908 by Ole F. Bergan after he invented the anatomical frame pack. During a hunting trip, he cut and shaped a juniper branch to match the curve of his back and attached it to his heavy, loose-fitting rucksack, a design now mirrored in every anatomical backpack produced today, including Bergans award winning Glittertind. The company offers a broad range of backpacks, tents, foldable canoes, and technical and fashionably functional outdoor and ski clothing.

The headquarter of Bergans Fritid AS is situated in Hokksund, Norway, 60 km southwest of Oslo, where 90-plus employees work in development, research, design and sales. Bergans is a market leader in Norway and steadily growing in several export markets in Europe and North America (
