BEAVERTON, Ore. (April 24, 2006) – Yakima, a leading designer and manufacturer of vehicle racks and cargo boxes, today announced that the first two products in its new SkyBox cargo box line, the SkyBox 18 and SkyBox Pro 18 (referring to the number of cubic feet), will ship to retail on April 25, 2006. The 12, 16 and 21 cubic foot versions of the SkyBox will arrive at retail this summer. The SkyBox 18 is $439.99 and the SkyBox Pro 18 is $539.99. Accessories include: a long-lasting internal LED light for increased visibility; a durable cargo net to keep gear secure; a removable gear pad for increased gear protection; and a low-profile wall mount for convenient box storage when not in use, all sold separately. These accessories are easily installed or removed, enabling outdoor enthusiasts to tailor the use of the box to their specific activities. The SkyBox is available in traditional black, while the SkyBox Pro comes in a metallic diamond pattern.

“Yakima's SkyBox line pays great attention to detail, enabling consumers to outfit their box with useful accessories to suit their specific gear and cargo needs,” said Mike Steck, director of marketing for Yakima. “Its clever accessories give consumers a higher level of confidence in the storage and protection of their gear.”

Additional SkyBox features include: single latch security; a dual side-opening lid for trouble-free loading and unloading; a reinforced lid for secure closure with one hand; quick attachment hardware for quick mounting and removal; an enhanced lid with an “Easy Grip” edge for effortless closure in wet or icy conditions; and a re-designed aerodynamic shape for reduced drag and wind noise.

“The SkyBox line represents the next generation of roof top-cargo boxes,” said David Fee, director of category business management at Yakima. “Cargo boxes have always been essential to transporting cargo or gear. By integrating a line of accessories with a superior external design and a lid that is many times stronger than the competition, we engineered a smart solution that fills the diverse needs of today's consumer.”
