The industry buzz this week in the Rocky Mountain and Northern California territories was all about the great turnout and success at the new WWSRA Preview shows which kicked-off in Boulder, CO and Sacramento, CA on Tuesday. Reps were booked solid and retailers were provided the tools and insight to make the most effective use of their time and money the next few weeks at the National Shows. Rave reviews were offered by reps and retailers alike. As WWSRA staff member Jill McNulty states, "As show manager I couldn't have been more pleased. The show was bustling with activity from start to finish!"

The Previews seemed to work particularly well for snowboard, softgoods and outdoor reps and buyers. Chris Berger, the Northern California RIDE rep states, "It was impressive to see how many manufacturers, both big and small, got behind their reps to support the Preview Shows by providing them with needed samples. This helped create one of the most successful regional shows this territory has seen in years. I was booked from 8AM-6PM every day!‰ Marisa Klein, the Orage rep shared the same enthusiasm about the new Preview and said her dealers were thrilled to get so much done before the national shows.

Boards N Motion retail buyer Wendy Woodward felt the show was vital to getting her business done. "I was able to see a lot of lines and get a good comparison of the products so I will have 70% of my decisions made by SIA. I can take advantage of maximum discounts and can finalize my
orders with full color waves in Vegas."

Randy Walker, the Rocky Mountain Volcom and 36 Snowboard Boot rep commented that he would have had to do one or more small shows in January if WWSRA had not launched the Preview, but "having one show with every category represented; snow, skate, outdoor, active lifestyles and back to school, in one place was much more effective. The show worked great for me." Eric Warble, the Rocky Mountain Oakley rep added, "the show was actually a lot of fun. The energy and overall mood was great. None of us knew what to expect, but the attendance and effectiveness of the business being done exceeded all of our expectations. I envision this show will grow significantly and become the new standard for our trade show schedule, making SIA more functional."

Mike Osborne from BC Surf & Sport in Denver and Josh Roberts from Milosport in Salt Lake City both had great things to say about the show and felt that previewing "really prepared us to make good decisions. Now we can nail down what we need to do in Vegas and be more effective with our time overall." Mike Osborn.

Cloudveil Mountain Works and Black Diamond Equipment rep Thorn Luth offered his enthusiastic input. "I found the timing, format, attendance and organization of the WWSRA Preview Show to be impeccable. Retailer attendance was fantastic and enthusiasm for this show among all attendees was genuine. I would say that this was one of the most productive shows, either national or regional, that I have attended or exhibited in."

The support seen by retail buyers and overall success of the Previews really solidified the importance of these January shows. The Southern California Preview in Newport Beach and Northwest Preview in Portland kick-off next week. We look forward to equally productive shows in these territories!
