World-Class Climber Kevin Jorgeson Joins adidas Outdoor Team of Athletes
LOS ANGELES (February 20, 2013)- adidas Outdoor, the athletic brand in the outdoors, today announced its latest athlete partnership with professional climber Kevin Jorgeson. The 28-year-old is best known for establishing cutting-edge highball boulder problems across the world and co-founding Pro Climbers International (PCI), an athletic association dedicated to inspiring the next generation of climbers.
Jorgeson began his climbing career at the age of 14 at Vertex Climbing Center in his hometown of Santa Rosa, Calif. After winning several national level competitions, he stopped competing in 2002 and began to focus entirely on outdoor climbing. Jorgeson has earned his spot as a world-class climber with career highlights including first ascents of Bishop highballs such as Ambrosia, The Beautiful and Damned and Footprints.
“Kevin is an accomplished outdoor climber who is constantly pushing the limits professionally and personally,” said Greg Thomsen, managing director of adidas Outdoor U.S. “Having an athlete on board who shares our passion for growing the next generation of climbers speaks volumes, and we are committed to helping him with his future endeavors.”
Founded in 2009, PCI has launched the successful nationwide Pro Clinic Series and established climbing programs and events at climbing gyms, Boys & Girls Clubs and universities across the country. Jorgeson has plans to grow PCI into a global organization focused on athletes, events and services that attract new climbers to the sport.
“Competition climbing taught me quickly that you only have one chance to succeed, so you need to make your efforts count,” said Jorgeson. “I’ve applied that same mentality to all aspects of my life and partnering with an established, leading brand in the industry offers me incredible opportunity that will help me surpass my goals.”
Jorgeson is currently working alongside Tommy Caldwell and Jonathan Siegrist on his first ascent of Dawn Wall on El Capitan in Yosemite, Calif. Once completed, this will be the hardest free climbing project in the world, with seven pitches of 5.14, seven pitches of 5.13 and nothing easier than 5.12 on the entire route.
