Summit County, Colo. - January 10, 2018
SUMMIT COUNTY, COLORADO – Wilderness Sports, a Summit County institution since 1976 and a leading retailer in outdoor gear and apparel, announced this evening that it will be changing its ownership and becoming an employee owned business, effective January 1, 2018.
JT Greene, newly appointed Managing Partner of Wilderness Sports, said, “We are excited to be able to continue to build a community focused on backcountry skiing, biking and the outdoor lifestyle we thoroughly enjoy in Summit County. We are devoted to our customers and to enhancing their exposure to and education of the outdoors. The opportunity to be a locally, employee owned business is a dream come true and we are so thrilled to support our community through the employment of long-time residents, the engagement of our customers and educational opportunities.”
The commencement of the new ownership is a defining moment for Wilderness Sports and will add value to Wilderness Sports’ loyal customer base and to new customers. Through the winter months Wilderness Sports will continue to be the region’s premier retailer of backcountry gear, including having the county’s largest selection of alpine touring and telemark skis, boots and bindings. As winter fades to summer, Wilderness Sports turns its attention to bikes, climbing, SUP paddling, and hiking, with the highest trained and friendliest mechanics in the county. There is truly something for everyone, from the novice cyclist to the most seasoned climber.
In addition to the ownership update, Wilderness Sports will continue to be the best place in Summit County to buy and sell quality used and closeout equipment and apparel through their consignment program. The second floor of Wilderness Sports is dedicated to providing a fun and affordable way to update and sell gear.
